Feeding & Swallowing
Laureen Lim
Speech Therapist
Laureen obtained her Bachelor in Speech and Language from Massey University in New Zealand in 2011. She brings more than 9 years of valuable experience in paediatrics. Previously at Fei Yue Community Services’ Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC), she worked effectively with children (0-6 years old) who have autism, global developmental delays (GDD), speech delays (e.g. children with poor pronunciation), language delays (e.g. late talkers) or are fussy/picky eaters.
Playing a key role in an EIPIC transdisciplinary team with other professionals such as occupational therapists, teachers and psychologists, Laureen is well versed with multi-disciplinary work, which is needed to view each child holistically. Building on her work experience, Laureen has also provided clinical mentoring for university students and speech therapists.
Laureen has extensive experience partnering with parents/caregivers and she is passionate about caregiver education. She has conducted various coaching workshops for parents/caregivers on topics such as Hanen (It Takes Two to Talk), Hanen (More than words), SOS feeding approach, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), PROMPT, etc.
Laureen strongly believes that every child has potential to learn, and early intervention with family partnership is important to help the child reach his/her full potential. Laureen aims for the child to use communication and feeding in all settings, including at home and in school. As a mother of three children, she recognizes that parents/caregivers spend the most time with their children (much more than therapists!) and can make important contributions to the child’s speech and language/feeding. Laureen enjoys guiding parents/caregivers on how to incorporate therapy goals into daily routines to optimize learning opportunities for the child.
Laureen is trained in the following professional skills:
- Hanen (It Takes Two to Talk)
- Hanen (More than Words)
- Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
- PROMPT (PROMPTs for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets)
- TalkTools- Oral Placement Therapy
- SOS Approach to Feeding
